- Reykjavík — arrive, collect car next morning.
- Vík / south coast — waterfalls, black sand, glacier views.
- Höfn or nearby — gateway to glacier lagoons.
- Egilsstaðir / east — slower fjord driving.
- Akureyri or Mývatn — north highlights.
- Snæfellsnes or back to Reykjavík — depending on days left.
Places to stay
- Farmstays and guesthouses beat lonely fuel-station hotels for breakfast and advice.
- Hot-tub guesthouses on the south coast are worth the splurge once.
- In peak summer, book as soon as flights are locked.
