The first two days of a long-haul trip decide whether you remember the destination or the headache. Most first-timers try to do too much, too soon.
Before you land
- Know your transfer before the plane doors open — name, price band, how you will pay.
- Screenshot hotel address and booking offline.
- Pack a day-one outfit and toothbrush in your cabin bag.
Day one: soft landing
- Check in, shower, drink water.
- A short neighbourhood walk and a simple meal beat a three-museum march.
- Go to bed close to local night-time, even if you feel wired.
Day two: start properly
Now you can do the big ticket. Morning light, timed entries and a planned lunch stop beat the “we’re here, we must see everything” spiral.
Jet lag is not a moral failing. Build the first 48 hours so the rest of the holiday has a chance.
