Lisbon to the Algarve is an easy win for a week: city food, cliff views, and water cold enough to make you feel alive. The trick is not racing the A2 the whole way.
Suggested stays
- Lisbon: central apartment, collect hire car on the morning you leave.
- Cascais/Estoril: softer seaside first night if you want an easy start.
- Ericeira: surf town energy without Algarve prices.
- Lagos: cliffs + old town for west Algarve.
- Tavira: calmer east Algarve, good for couples and families.
Driving notes
Tolls are real — get the hire car’s electronic toll sorted. City centres are better walked; park once. Summer temperatures inland are fierce — beach towns earn their keep.
Book Algarve parking or hotel garages in July–August. Street parking scavenger hunts are not a holiday activity.
